Sotheby’s held a three-day auction in Monterey this year, with the first day of sales mostly consisting of prewar greats from large collections. Otherwise, much of the buzz around this sale was consistent with the rest of Monterey Car Week (read our full analysis here), and that buzz was about modern exotics.
Many of the more than a dozen world auction records set by modern supercars were set at this auction, and total sales topped $376M, eclipsing the previous pandemic-era record from 2022. This is a staggering figure for a single car auction. While Mecum has topped $400M in Kissimmee before, it required nearly two weeks and thousands of vehicles to do so.
